International Women's Film Festival

What's a fun event without some grainy iPhone photos?

Last night a friend and I attended the opening night of the 24th annual St. John's International Women's Film Festival (IWFF). The event took place at the St. John's Arts and Culture Centre. The red carpet was rolled out and there were many well known Canadian on screen favourites in attendance. There was an opening reception before heading into the auditorium for speeches, followed by the showing of "The Grand Seduction".

The Grand Seduction is a comedy starring Brendan Gleeson, Taylor Kitsch, Liane Balaban and NL favourite Gordon Pinsent. This version was an English-language remake of the Québec film "La grande séduction". The English version was shot in Newfoundland's stunningly beautiful Trinity Bight. I would argue both versions showcase quintessential Newfoundland and Québec senses of humour: sarcastically smart and slightly saucy.

Following the screening, The Dardanelles performed outside the auditorium. This was my first time attending a IWFF event and I hope to see more of the films being screened at this year's festival. It runs from October 22-26. For more information, have a look at their website.

I aim to show the close connection between fashion and decor and how to translate your style in both of these areas. Thanks for the continued support and checking out my posts!

My first post for CollegeDormista features a student’s personal space and a Q&A. Have a look for some interior design inspiration.

The September Issues

I love the convenience of having magazine subscriptions to flick through issues on my e-reader; however, nothing will compare to being able to browse through the real thing. The September issues are undoubtedly my favourite and these are my top three choices for the month: Lucky, InStyle and People StyleWatch. My girl crush/favourite star editor Eva Chen was recently named Editor-in-Chief of Lucky, so that one's an obvious choice, however all three are chock full of items that are now on my fall wish list. InStyle in particular will provide maximal material to peruse. Enjoy your fall style reading!

Saturday Morning

My usual Saturday morning routine consists of a walk and a trip to the bakery for some freshly made bagels. This past weekend, I decided to change things up slightly and went out for brunch followed by a walk downtown instead. This is what I wore.

we meet again

Hat - Winners//Scarf - Pseudio//Sweater - Thrifted//Jacket - Model Citizens//Shorts - American Apparel//

Throughout the winter months I follow the ten step rule - as in, never be further than ten steps away from a heater.  However after feeling a bit cooped up these past few days I went against my own guidelines and went out to catch up with the great outdoors (how you doin' new foursquare badge).  Over the weekend I spent some quality father daughter time snowmobiling, eating diner burgers and catching up.  And then yesterday my boyfriend and I ventured outside into a mixture of flurries, freezing rain and cold winds to watch huge waves crash against the rocky shoreline.  Despite the weather, the scenery was spectacular (and great for the sinuses - hello added bonus).  While we were out rejuvenating ourselves, my boy snapped a few outfit pictures for me.
What's your solution for cabin fever?

winter white

Blazer - Zara//Sweater - Sears//Necklace - Joe Fresh//Jeans - Gap//Ankle Booties - Dolce Vita//Fur Scarf - a local shop?//Carry-All Pouch - American Apparel//Ring - Aldo

Whatever would entice me to dress entirely in shades of white and tan and head out to the currently slushy streets of this city?  A post on my interpretation of ‘winter white’, of course.  This outfit is a complete contrast to my normal winter uniform of darker colours and I really enjoy how it provides a blank canvas, so to speak - it makes it easy to keep the focus on the fur and metallic gold accessories and a colourful lip.  To keep it interesting I chose each piece in a different texture: fur, wool, denim, suede, and leather.  You may or may not be able to see from the expression in these pictures but today was a bitterly cold and windy day and immediately following this I headed home and layered on some thermals and cuddled up under a blanket to catch up on some episodes of Happy Endings.
